General Information about Journeyman Examinations

Journeyman's examinations are the final examinations in certified trades. Iðan administers journeyman's examinations in numerous trades. Before taking the journeyman's examination, students must have completed their workplace training and graduated from the relevant school.

When can I apply for a journeyman's examination?

  • You must have completed the digital logbook or be completing it during the current semester.
  • You must have graduated from school or be in your final semester of vocational training and graduate before taking the journeyman's examination.

What documents do I need to submit BEFORE taking the journeyman's examination?

According to the regulation on journeyman's examinations, it is necessary to submit the following documents:

Journeyman's examinations are held at least once a year in each trade if there is sufficient participation.

Journeyman's examination committees have four weeks to deliver the results of the examinations.

Please note that applications for the journeyman's examination are not accepted after the application deadline has passed. If problems arise during registration, you can send an email to [email protected] with your registration. The email must state the trade, name, and national ID number of the examinee, and email address. It must also include the national ID number, name, and email address of the master craftsman and the company.

Special Accommodations

The study and career counselling service at IÐAN Education Centre oversees special accommodations, and those who require them must request them when applying for the journeyman's examination. Please note that it is necessary to reapply for special accommodations for a retake.

In order for special accommodations to be granted, the applicant must submit a diagnosis or certificate from a qualified professional to a study and career counsellor. The documents must be submitted as soon as possible and no later than 10 days after applying for the journeyman's examination.

Iðan administers journeyman's examinations in a total of 30 trades according to a service agreement with the Ministry of Education and Children's Affairs, with an addendum from 2025. A memorandum on the agreement specifies Iðan's tasks in the administration of journeyman's examinations.
