Iðan provides continuing education for employees in the automotive, construction and civil engineering, metal and mechanical engineering, printing and media, and food and catering industries. Iðan's primary role is to improve the competence of companies and employees in industry.
The range of courses is diverse and constantly evolving, as it is an important role to provide companies and individuals with new knowledge and skills as needed.
Members of Iðan are employees in trades for whom a continuing education fee is paid to Iðan. The fee is paid by the employer in accordance with collective agreements.

Iðan holds the EQM+ (European Quality Mark) quality certification, which confirms that Iðan's courses and activities meet European quality standards. Iðan is also a recognised educational provider by the Ministry of Education and Children's Affairs.

Companies that pay continuing education fees to IÐAN and are in good standing are entitled to apply for educational grants for the education and training of their employees. Members are also entitled to travel grants for courses they attend.

Iðan employs study and career counsellors who specialise in assisting individuals with the validation of prior learning, study and career choices, and providing general study and career counselling. Iðan handles a variety of projects, such as analysing the educational needs of companies and conducting journeyman's examinations in numerous trades. It is also possible to book a trade leader along with a study and career counsellor for a company visit to present Iðan's services and conduct an educational analysis by calling 590-6400.

A strong emphasis is placed on international collaborative projects with the aim of supporting professionals and vocational students in acquiring knowledge and sharing their experience in certified trades. In most cases, study trips and collaborative projects are funded by Erasmus+, EEA Grants, and the Nordic Council of Ministers.
Iðan collaborates with companies and institutions on development and innovation within the industry, for example, when it comes to creating educational materials, new teaching methods, and opportunities for education and training abroad.
