When can I apply for a journeyman's examination?

You must have completed your electronic logbook
You must have graduated from school or be in your final semester of vocational training and graduate before taking the journeyman's examination.

What documents do I need to submit with my application for a journeyman's examination?

According to the regulation on journeyman's examinations, it is necessary to submit the following documents:

Confirmation that the electronic logbook is complete.
A graduation certificate from the school with grades or confirmation that you will graduate during the current semester and before taking the journeyman's examination.

Are you not using an electronic logbook but are on an apprenticeship contract under the old system?

Then you need to send a pension fund statement with your application to confirm your working hours.

After the application deadline has passed, the applicant will receive a letter with information about the examination location, date, and license and material fees where applicable.

An examinee who requests special accommodations for the journeyman's examination needs to contact an academic and career counsellor at IÐAN.

Journeyman's Examination in Hairdressing

The next journeyman's examination in hairdressing will be held in September and October. The written exam is on 21 September, and the practical exam will be on 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, 31 October and 1 November. Further dates will be confirmed after the application deadline. An examination will be held in Akureyri on 3 October if there are enough participants. The application deadline is 7 August 2026.
