Running a Carpentry Workshop

Running a Carpentry Workshop

Dagmar Þorsteinsdóttir, an industrial engineer, is the CEO of Tréborg. She has worked in the construction industry for many years and discovered her passion for woodworking after running a hotel abroad and pursuing university studies.

The daily tasks of a carpentry workshop are many and demanding, and Dagmar says that there is generally good cooperation between carpentry workshops and tradespeople, and there have been plenty of projects recently. It is very important to maintain a good flow of information between contractors who are involved in the same project, says Dagmar. Then everyone is in the same flow because we take over from one another.

Timelines are also important, and it's important that they are realistic, says Dagmar. Customers have a right to an honest conversation. The client is usually willing to wait, she says, as long as they know the delivery date. We rarely lose them due to a lack of time.

We can see projects into January, says Dagmar, that's a normal timeframe for us. However, the fixed costs for a workshop like this are too high, even though there are enough projects. It would probably be proportionally more economical to merge and have a larger operational unit, but we enjoy managing this ourselves so much, she says in conclusion.
