Welding Supervisor
The welding coordinator ensures that quality and responsibility are prioritized above all else in the welding process and that work is carried out in accordance with the standard IST EN ISO 14731.
Gerry McCarthy is a welding engineer from Ireland who owns and operates the company Welding Quality Management Services Ltd. He has over thirty years of experience in the metal industry and has worked with specifications, design, welding, operations, and quality and CE markings, in addition to being an IWE (International Welding Engineer).
McCarthy was recently in Iceland to teach the course Welding Coordinator, organised by IÐAN, along with Gústaf A. Hjaltason. It was therefore a natural step to sit down and discuss the importance of having a dedicated welding coordinator at companies in the metal and mechanical engineering industry.
McCarthy says it is important that those responsible for the quality of metal welding can analyse the design, assembly, and handling, and carry out inspections. This person must also be familiar with the relevant standards concerning quality and defects.
