Changes to studies in printing and media
The Rector of Tækniskólinn, Hildur Ingvarsdóttir; the Chairman of GRAFÍA, Georg Páll Skúlason; and the representative of the Federation of Icelandic Industries (SI), Ingibjörg Steinunn Ingjaldsdóttir, Chairman of the Board of Prentmet Oddi, signed a declaration today to work together on the development and changes to the curriculum in printing and media disciplines.
The declaration of cooperation was signed at the new premises for these disciplines in Vatnsholt. At the same time, an impressive graduation exhibition by students in graphic communication and printing was taking place, providing a good reason to celebrate.
The goal of the changes is to increase the number of students in printing and media disciplines and to enhance professional knowledge for the future.
The main change aimed for is to unite all subjects within the printing and media disciplines under a single job title, Graphic Communicator. Students will receive the same foundational education and then choose a specialisation in printing, print finishing, or bookbinding, which they will then further develop in the workplace.
Students who pass the journeyman's examination in the field will gain the right to work in graphic disciplines and the opportunity to specialise in their chosen area.
With the planned changes, the industry's need for greater professional knowledge and the ability to work in a broader field within the printing disciplines is being addressed. The aim is for the new curriculum to be ready by the autumn of 2025.
