The bookstore is also a community center and bar
Dögg Hjaltalín and Anna Lea Friðriksdóttir, owners of Salka Publishing and the bookshop on Hverfisgata, had a few spare minutes to chat with Kristjana Guðbrandsdóttir on the podcast Bókaást (Book Love) while they monitored the shipping of Christmas books on their phones.
“The life of a bookseller isn't on a linear timeline,” explains Anna Lea.
Dögg and Anna Lea are probably among the busiest booksellers in the country. They edit books and write books, translate books, and hold art exhibitions and workshops in the bookstore. “Oh, and the bookstore is also a bar!” they say, sharing their adventures and why there's no chance of bookstores ceasing to exist.
