Built from hempcrete in Iceland
Iðan visited a site in Gufunes to learn about research on hempcrete
Architects Anna Kristín Karlsdóttir and Jan Dobrowolski from Lúdika will present their research on hempcrete as a building material in connection with DesignMarch.
We will learn about the properties of this building material and the potential of hemp in Icelandic conditions. In the coming weeks, they will build a tiny house out of hempcrete, also utilizing local and renewable raw materials in its construction.
The result of their work will be a detailed report and a guide for others who want to use hempcrete in construction and contribute to a sustainable and environmentally friendly building industry.
Anna and Jan recently received a grant from the Askur Building Research Fund for the project: “The First Hempcrete House in Iceland” and are working on a course this autumn with the Iðan Education Centre on hempcrete in the construction industry.
