Started in a garage with one forklift
The couple Gunnhildur Ingvarsdóttir and Þráinn Skarphéðinsson have run Héraðsprent for over 50 years.
Gunnhildur is here in a very enjoyable and informative interview with Kristjóna Guðbrandsdóttir, Head of Print and Media at Iðan, about the operation and development of the printing company.
Armed with a master craftsman's certificate in printing and one small letterpress machine, the company was started in September 1972. It's fun to note that at first, the printing company was housed in a simple garage. There was no telephone, so work orders were received either by letter or in person. The need for this service existed, and so the business grew steadily.
The first printing press is still in use, especially for projects where a specific texture is sought.
In addition to offering all general printing services, design, and paper sales, Héraðsprent publishes Dagskráin in East Iceland and Kompás.
