Only a few years ago, it would have been considered quite newsworthy to see drones hovering over people's heads at popular destinations in Icelandic nature or at crowded gatherings. Today, such a sight is considered nothing special, unless it causes a disturbance.
High-tech aircraft with a 2 km range and a top speed of nearly 70 km/h, a powerful camera, and remarkably good collision avoidance have become commonplace. Such devices are popular for photography and filmmaking, but as with other innovations, there are various things to consider.
IÐAN Education Centre offers two courses for anyone interested in taking photos and videos with drones. A basic course called Drone Photography and an advanced course, Drone Photography - Advanced, which covers, among other things, processing methods for footage captured with drones. The instructor for the courses is Óli Haukur, who has extensive knowledge of drone photography and runs the company Ozzo photography.
IÐAN's Department of Construction and Civil Engineering offers the course Drones in the Construction Industry, which is intended for construction professionals who want to utilize the technology of the fourth industrial revolution. The instructor is Jón Halldór Arnarson, an engineer. The course will cover the many possibilities offered by the use of drones, such as inspection, quantity take-off, surveying, and more. It will also go over types of drones and the main things to keep in mind when using them. The course is also held in Akureyri.
