Environmentally friendly car recycling
“You always have to think of this as something of value and not some useless junk,” says Aðalheiður Jacobsen, CEO of Netpartar.
The company Netpartar specializes in the environmentally friendly recycling of vehicles and the reuse of car parts.
“This all started in 2009,” says Aðalheiður. “The idea sprang from the financial crisis when it was difficult to buy spare parts because the króna was so weak. So we started collaborating with Sjóvá on reusing car parts and used spare parts to ensure that both traceability and quality were visible. This also ensured that if a spare part was faulty or didn't fit, it could be replaced or refunded.”
The traceability of the spare parts is based on various factors such as the car's service book, maintenance, and claims history. This should give the workshop a good picture of the condition of the spare part and allow it to assess its usability.
Aðalheiður says that although people are generally more aware of recycling today, the automotive industry needs to undergo a change in mindset, and this is where workshops and insurance companies come in strongly. They could play a part in changing procedures and making better use of what is available. Aðalheiður mentions that according to international surveys, insurance companies could potentially reduce repair costs by up to 20%.
Netpartar recycles vehicles in an environmentally friendly way and is certified to do so.
“There are many things to consider when a car comes to Netpartar for recycling and dismantling. We need to ensure that the right methods are used and that items are sorted correctly. The key to success lies in viewing an unusable car as a valuable asset. Our staff plays an important role in this; they respect the items instead of seeing them as useless junk,” says Aðalheiður.
