Are drones the delivery method of the future?
Iðan Education Centre went on-site and spoke with Gísli Rafnsson, a drone pilot at Aha.
The company Aha.is is an online marketplace that has enjoyed great popularity, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Shops and restaurants can offer products and meals without investing in development or building up technical expertise. The company was founded by friends Helgi Már Þórðarson and Maron Kristófersson in March 2011.
AHA shares couriers and vehicles for home deliveries for more than one company, using electric cars, bicycles, and electric scooters. AHA also uses DJI Matrice 600 electric drones for food deliveries. These drones can carry a 3 kg food delivery and fly at a speed of 55 km/h in optimal weather conditions.
Gísli also mentions that drone food deliveries are no longer a development project but a permanent part of the marketplace's delivery methods.
