On 29 April, 31 participants graduated from the validation of prior learning project VISKA http://viskaproject.eu/. All participants are from Poland and have lived in Iceland for several years. This is the first time a validation of prior learning project has been organised with the specific aim of accommodating immigrants.

The latest results from Statistics Iceland on the social well-being of immigrants show that immigrants do not have as good access to the school system and that the dropout rate for immigrants in the Icelandic school system is higher than for natives. In cooperation with participants, assessors, upper secondary schools and authorities, the aim is to provide important information on how the validation of prior learning system can be used to better support immigrants.

The School of Education at the University of Iceland is collecting information about the process during the project. IÐAN education centre and the Education and Training Service Centre are managing the project in Iceland on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
