Productivity and Waste in Building and Construction

IÐAN Education Centre will soon be offering two interesting courses on productivity and waste in the building and construction industry.

On Tuesday, 27 November, the course Productivity in Building and Construction will begin. This course is for master craftsmen and employees of contracting companies in the construction industry. Its purpose is for participants to gain knowledge and understanding of the factors that determine productivity in construction projects. The various reasons for low productivity in the Icelandic construction industry and ways to improve it will be discussed. Innovations in the management of construction projects and the methods available to managers to improve productivity will be covered.

The course is in four parts, a total of 12 hours, and will be taught on Tuesday mornings from 9:00 to 12:00.

On Thursday, 29 November, the course Waste in Building and Construction will begin. This is a course for master craftsmen and employees of contracting companies in the construction industry. Its purpose is to make participants aware of waste, which is a significant problem in the construction industry, and it is very important for companies to address this issue.

Waste is examined based on the categories of waste, which are defects, inventory, overproduction, motion, transport, over-processing, talent, and waiting time. These points are reviewed with students, and potential solutions are explored. The goal is to get students to see that solutions exist and that the main problems have been identified and where action can be taken.
