The Icelandic Asset and Maintenance Management Association recently held its autumn meeting in Hafnarfjörður.
The association, founded in early 2009, has been a dynamic platform for knowledge sharing and discussion on asset and maintenance management in Iceland. It has been a full member of the European Federation of National Maintenance Societies (EFNMS) since 2016 and works systematically to increase knowledge and innovation in asset and maintenance management, as well as to build a network within the industry.
The Icelandic Asset and Maintenance Management Association is a non-profit organisation and has, among other things, focused on extending the lifespan of equipment, reducing energy consumption, and thus promoting better resource utilisation. This is an important approach in today's environment where companies place increasing emphasis on sustainability and reducing their carbon footprint.
The association has placed great emphasis on holding courses and sharing knowledge, including in collaboration with Iðan. Steinar Ísfeld Ómarsson, the association's chairman, along with Guðmundur Jón Bjarnason, a representative on the European stage, reported that significant work has been put into developing courses and a certification programme in collaboration with European associations. The goal is to enhance professional competence and strengthen the position of asset and maintenance management in Iceland. The association has been involved in numerous projects; for example, it worked with other member associations on an Erasmus+ project where a curriculum for asset and maintenance management was created, in addition to being involved in translating standards into Icelandic and providing education related to the subject. At the autumn meeting, the first Icelanders received recognition as European Certified Asset and Maintenance Managers. This was the outcome of a course and exam held at Iðan, managed by the Icelandic Asset and Maintenance Management Association in cooperation with Idhammar and SVUH.
The Icelandic Asset and Maintenance Management Association is thus at the forefront of leading the discussion and implementation in the field of asset management with a clear vision for sustainability, knowledge building, and increased quality in maintenance management.
