A Coffee Chat about Packaging and Packaging Design

A Coffee Chat about Packaging and Packaging Design

Kristjana Björg Guðbrandsdóttir, Director of the Print and Media Division, talks to María Manda Ívarsdóttir.

In Iceland, a considerable amount of packaging is produced for both Icelandic and foreign products, despite the small size of the market. For example, in the confectionery and food industries. Packaging design and production is a rapidly growing sector in the global printing industry, and the use of paper is on the rise. María Manda Ívarsdóttir, a packaging designer, and Kristjana Björg Guðbrandsdóttir, Head of the Printing and Media Department at IÐAN Education Centre, sat down for a coffee and a chat about issues related to packaging design and production in Iceland. They agreed that the development in packaging design was rapid and that production was becoming increasingly sustainable. The creativity in design was noteworthy, and together they examined several packaging examples from Icelandic and foreign food products.

María Manda is in charge of new online courses covering everything related to packaging, from concept to design, production, and use. There will be a total of six courses, the first two of which are now available online.
