Informational Meeting on the Assessment of Prior Learning
An informational meeting about the validation of prior learning was held on Wednesday, 18 August at 17:00 via live stream.
Assessment of prior learning is a way to evaluate the skills and knowledge that can be acquired in the labour market for academic credit. The assessment can potentially shorten your studies and be an incentive to complete them.
The following trades are scheduled for an assessment of prior learning at IÐAN in the autumn of 2021, provided there is sufficient participation (more trades will be added during the semester depending on demand):
- Carpentry and painting
- Lathing, steel construction, sheet metal work and mechanics/machine operation
- Metal welding
The conditions for participating in an assessment of prior learning are being 23 years of age and having 3 years of confirmed work experience in the relevant trade. This pathway has yielded good results, as many participants in the assessment of prior learning have continued their studies and completed a journeyman's examination after the assessment.
The assessment of prior learning is carried out in collaboration with the Education and Training Service Centre and is based on the principle that it is natural to assess existing skills regardless of how they were acquired. The assessment of prior learning is based on the idea that learning is valuable and that it should be documented, regardless of where it was acquired.
