Informational Meeting on the Assessment of Prior Learning

An informational meeting on the validation of prior learning will be held on Tuesday, 27 August at 17:00 at the premises of IÐAN Education Centre at Vatnagarðar 20 in Reykjavík.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a way to assess the skills and knowledge gained in the labour market for academic credit. The assessment can potentially shorten your studies and serve as an incentive to complete them.

On Tuesday, 27 August, IÐAN Education Centre will host an informational meeting about RPL. The meeting starts at 17:00 and will be held at the IÐAN Education Centre premises at Vatnagarðar 20 in Reykjavík. All are welcome.

The following trades are scheduled for RPL at IÐAN in the autumn of 2019, provided there is sufficient participation:

  • Carpentry, painting, and plumbing
  • Lathing, steel construction, sheet metal work, and mechanics/engine operation
  • Waiting

The requirements for participating in RPL are being at least 23 years of age and having 3 years of confirmed work experience in the relevant trade. This pathway has yielded good results, as many RPL participants have continued their studies and completed their journeyman's examination after the assessment.

RPL is carried out in collaboration with the Education and Training Service Centre and is based on the principle that it is natural to assess existing skills regardless of how they were acquired. The assessment of prior learning is based on the idea that learning is valuable and should be documented, regardless of where it was obtained.
