Primary School Cooking Competition
On Wednesday, November 16, the Primary School Cooking Competition was held, where students in the upper grades competed in making desserts.
Teams from eight schools competed: Álftamýrarskóli, Fellaskóli, Flóaskóli, Foldaskóli, Hlíðaskóli, Hólabrekkuskóli, Valhúsaskóli, and Víkurskóli. Preparations had been underway all autumn, with students working under the guidance of their teachers, but they also received a visit from a master chef at their school.
An open house was held on the day of the competition at Hús fagfélaganna at Stórhöfði 31 for parents and supporters, and there was a great atmosphere at the awards ceremony at the end of the day. Flóaskóli emerged as the winner but was truly first among equals, as only three points separated first and eighth place. A truly incredible performance by all teams and competitors, who came to the competition in high spirits, with enthusiasm, ambition, and positivity shining from every face.
This was a collaborative project between several primary schools, the Icelandic Chefs' Association, and the IÐAN Education Centre. The main goal was, of course, to have fun, as well as to provide some vocational education, as school studies are, at least in part, preparation for participation in the workforce.
