MCEU Micro-Course in the Restaurant and Tourism Industry: Next Steps
Iðan and SAF are participating in the Erasmus+ project MCEU, which develops short digital learning paths for employees in the tourism and hospitality sector. The first pilot showed that flexible microlearning works well alongside employment, and the next focus will be on clearer micro-credentials.
IÐAN and SAF are participating in the European Erasmus+ project MCEU (Upskilling the EUROPEAN Hospitality Industry with Portable Micro-Credentials), which tests short, digital learning paths for employees in the tourism industry, including the food and restaurant sectors. In the first pilot run (Pilot 1), around 300 individuals from three countries took part: Iceland, Spain, and Denmark.
The Icelandic participants all came from the professional world and completed over 80 learning paths, with each learning path consisting of multiple micro-courses.
The results show that short and flexible micro-learning is well-suited for employees, especially short courses that can be taken alongside work. Participants found the course material useful as a refresher and for inspiration.
One of the main challenges that emerged relates to the micro-credentials themselves. The results from a survey among participants showed that the benefit of micro-credentials is not clear to individuals, both in terms of further education and career progression. The focus of the next pilot run (Pilot 2) will therefore be to better clarify what skills and competencies the micro-credential certifies and also to simplify the process of issuing micro-credentials.
The micro-courses are free of charge for everyone.
If you or your company are interested in participating in the next test (Pilot 2), we would be delighted to have you. We encourage members to take part! Registration is here.
