My Future 2019

Icelandic Skills Competition and Upper Secondary School Fair, 14 - 16 March in Laugardalshöll.

On Thursday, 14 March, the Icelandic Skills Competition will begin in Laugardalshöll and will conclude on Saturday, 16 March, with an awards ceremony and closing celebration.

There will be a lot going on in Laugardalshöll over these three days, as 30 industrial, vocational, and technical trades will be participating in My Future 2019. Most of the trades have competitors in the Icelandic Skills Competition, many of whom will get the opportunity to compete in EuroSkills next year. Around 7,000 primary school students from all over the country will visit the hall to look around, try things out, and learn about the diverse range of courses available at the upper secondary level. Alongside the competition, 33 upper secondary schools from all over the country will be presenting their course offerings.

Also present in the area will be BMX BRÓS, Erasmus+, the Association of Study and Career Counsellors, Women in Trades, the MA and VMA dormitories, Iðan Education Centre, Iðnú, Kvasir - the Association of Lifelong Learning Centres, SÍF - the Union of Icelandic Upper Secondary School Students, Rafmennt, Reykjavík FabLab, Verksmiðjan RÚV, and Team Spark.

The event is open to the public on Thursday and Friday from 14:00 to 17:00, and on Saturday, families are especially welcome. Activities will include paving, cutting, braiding, curling, or straightening hair, drawing graphics in virtual reality, splicing networks, going on a scavenger hunt, attending various mini-courses, measuring blood pressure, planting seeds, 3D printing, building, trying out robots, drilling, sewing on an industrial sewing machine, solving puzzles and winning prizes, watching milking and shearing, and participating in creating the longest flower arrangement ever made in Iceland. The doors open to the public at 10:00 on Saturday, and the fun lasts until 16:00. Admission is free.
