Innovation that improves quality of life
What is social innovation? Tryggvi Thayer, an expert in innovation, explains and gives fun and good examples.
Tryggvi Thayer, a specialist in innovation in teaching and pedagogy at the University of Iceland's School of Education, continues to teach us about innovation. In this talk, he explains the phenomenon of social innovation and how it tackles societal challenges and improves the quality of life for all of us.
Tryggvi gives a good example of social innovation that all Icelanders are familiar with today. “It's this so-called plogging. There were people who were out walking and felt there was too much rubbish around them. They create a kind of movement that makes it a regular thing to go for walks, collect rubbish in a bag, and take it to the right place. No one is directly gaining financially from this, but we all benefit from it because it beautifies our environment and could prevent unhealthy conditions.”
