Today, the carbon footprint of electric car production is rather high, but in the interview, Jónas Kári discusses how the industry is working towards carbon neutrality with various solutions, such as new sustainable materials from mushrooms and cacti.
The number of electric cars has increased very rapidly in Iceland, and demand exceeds supply. Naturally, there are therefore many challenges ahead that urgently need to be solved.
In the last four years, the market has gone from 7% electric and plug-in hybrid cars to 70%, and Jónas Kári says that government actions have been crucial and have spurred this positive development. Only Norway has more electric cars per capita.
He believes that the energy transition is happening with new cars, and that charging stations are becoming more powerful and accessible, and batteries are evolving to have a longer range.
