Electronic Logbooks Formally Launched
Today, 26 August, electronic logbooks were formally put into use, and it can thus be said that the day marks a new beginning in vocational training in Iceland. The first apprenticeship contracts were signed today under the new logbook system.
In 2013, IÐAN Education Centre had completed work on logbooks for 23 trades. In that process, we strongly emphasised to the Ministry of Education that the logbooks should be interactive to be as useful as possible in the workplace training of apprentices. It is therefore extremely gratifying to see the project formally become interactive, which will be of great benefit.
Since IÐAN began issuing logbooks, it is estimated that around 3,000 copies have been in use during this time. The books have been accessible on IÐAN's website.
A logbook is intended to enhance the quality of vocational training by creating a communication platform for students, workplaces, schools, and others involved in vocational training. The logbook ensures that the student receives the correct training and acquires the skills needed at the end of their vocational training.
IÐAN and Rafmennt will soon offer master craftsmen a course on using electronic logbooks.
