OECD Report on Competition Assessment and Legal Protection of Professions
A new OECD report on the competition assessment of the Icelandic tourism and construction industries was recently published.
The report was prepared in collaboration with the Icelandic Competition Authority and contains 438 proposals for changes to regulations which the authors of the report say are intended to simplify the regulatory framework and make it more flexible for companies and individuals working in these sectors.
Among the proposals is the abolition of legal protection for the professions of baker and photographer. The content of the report and the legal protection of trades in Iceland have been the subject of much debate. IÐAN Education Centre therefore had selected chapters of the report translated for its members.
