Status of Apprentices on an Apprenticeship Contract
IÐAN's academic and career advisors assist students as much as possible
We have been quite successful in securing the position of apprentices on training contracts due to COVID-19, and there are currently 724 training contracts in effect. However, the position of apprentices on contract is in some cases uncertain due to COVID-19; there are instances where contracts have been terminated and students are working reduced hours.
The Association of Icelandic Upper Secondary Schools (SÍF) has appealed to schools and educational institutions to accommodate students as much as possible due to the current uncertainty and to provide them with the clearest possible information about the situation. The situation varies greatly between different trades. We at IÐAN Education Centre see a particular need to inform students on training contracts in culinary arts and waiting about the situation.
Reduced working hours fully credited
Students who have been working at 25% capacity from March to June 2020 and are at 50% capacity in July and August will have that time fully credited as part of their workplace training.
Students should report contract terminations
Students who have the option to enrol in the 2nd or 3rd year at the Hotel and Food School (MK) are kindly asked to contact Baldur Sæmundsson, the programme manager, at the email address [email protected]. Students in culinary arts and waiting whose training contracts have been terminated are kindly asked to contact IÐAN Education Centre by email at [email protected] or [email protected]. We will review possible solutions and assist students as best we can.
Without training contracts, apprentices cannot complete their studies and need guidance and support to continue their education. Students in other trades under the purview of IÐAN Education Centre who wish to speak with a study and career counsellor are advised to book an appointment by phone at 590-6400 or by email at [email protected].
