Digital credentials are the future

Digital credentials are the future

The format of course instruction has remained almost unchanged for centuries. We sit in a classroom and receive a certificate as a reward. But now, all that is changing.

Digital credentials are at once useful, portable, and secure; they make an individual's skills, competencies, and knowledge visible in the digital world.

"This adds a completely new dimension," says Helen Gray, Development Manager at IÐAN. "This is done in such a way that the digital credential contains metadata that is communicated via a blockchain, which makes it impossible to forge. The credential is therefore secure and reliable and certified by a third party."

"This is incredibly important," says Helen, mentioning the example of foreigners who want to have their education from their home country assessed. "That whole process is currently done on paper," she says, "but this would be a clear example of how digital credentials would save everyone time and increase security. Both for the applicant and the person assessing the documents."

But is this any more significant than good old paper? "I love paper," says Helen, "and we mustn't forget that a digital credential can also be printed out. However, this is a completely different matter. This is more reliable, and you can also share it with the whole world on social media like Facebook or LinkedIn."

"This is all a very exciting development," says Helen. "We at IÐAN are developing this solution in collaboration with a Danish certification company for continuing education in industry. We believe that digital credentials will transform the form in which education is presented in the future."
