Concrete is not just concrete
Guðni Jónsson, a structural engineer, has a background in carpentry and technical studies. During his engineering studies, he became fascinated by material science and, as he says himself, "concrete took over".
Guðni currently works at the engineering firm Efla and also teaches at Reykjavík University.
Here he talks to our podcast, Augnablik í iðnaði (A Moment in Industry), about the origins of concrete, its production in Iceland, and what to keep in mind when mixing and using concrete for various projects. Environmental issues are a major concern for many, and appropriate measures must be taken to research and produce more environmentally friendly options.
Guðni has just finished filming an online course on concrete for us at IÐAN, which will be released soon.
