Establishment of the Business Community's Apprentice Office

The Business Community's Classroom began its operations on Tuesday, 5 April at 12:00 p.m. in the premises of the IÐAN Education Centre, in the presence of the Minister of Education and Children's Affairs, Ásmundur Einar Daðason, representatives from the business community, and the rectors of upper secondary schools.

Nemastofa atvinnulífsins (The Business Community's Apprentice Centre) is a collaborative platform for business associations aimed at improving workplace learning and increasing the number of skilled professionals. The goal of Nemastofa atvinnulífsins is to increase the number of companies and master craftsmen who take on apprentices through workplace learning agreements. The establishment of Nemastofa atvinnulífsins provides a better overview of the number of students in workplace learning, in addition to improving and simplifying students' access to vocational training. Ásmundur Einar Daðason, Minister of Education and Children's Affairs, Hildur Elín Vignir, Managing Director of IÐAN Education Centre, and Þór Pálsson, Managing Director of RAFMENNT, signed an agreement on a special initiative aimed, among other things, at increasing the number of companies on the registry of approved training providers.

Nemastofa atvinnulífsins presented incentive awards to three companies that have achieved good results in training and teaching apprentices in the workplace in recent years and are good role models as training companies in their respective trades. The companies that received incentive awards in 2022 were; the goldsmith and jewellery store Tímadjásn, the car dealership BL, and TG raf.
