Journeyman's Certificates Awarded at a Formal Ceremony
Today, 225 new journeymen received their journeyman's certificates in 16 different trades at a formal ceremony at the Hilton Reykjavík Nordica hotel.
The ceremony was well attended and marks an important milestone in the careers of these tradespeople. Carpenters were the largest group to take the stage this year, with a total of 81 journeyman's certificates awarded in carpentry. A large group of new journeymen in the baking trade, the largest in many years with a total of 13 people, drew particular attention.
In addition to the aforementioned trades, journeyman's certificates were also awarded in auto body repair, car painting, sheet metal work, waiting, furniture upholstery, cabinetmaking, butchery, cooking, painting, masonry, plumbing, steel construction, wallpapering and tiling, and last but not least, fishing gear technology. This diverse group of new journeymen reflects the importance of vocational training and the breadth found in Icelandic industry today. The awarding of the journeyman's certificates marks the beginning of a new chapter in their careers as fully qualified tradespeople, and Iðan Education Centre congratulates them all on this milestone.
