Mushrooms and Mushroom Picking

Mushrooms and Mushroom Picking

IÐAN presents a highly enjoyable course for anyone who wants to learn about mushrooms that grow in Iceland and are suitable for cooking.

The course instructor is Bjarni Diðrik Sigurðsson, Professor of Forestry at the Agricultural University of Iceland and author of The Mushroom Handbook.

The course is divided into two parts. The first part consists of a lecture and a demonstration on identifying and preparing mushrooms, while the second part involves a practical session in the woods. Participants will receive assistance and instruction in foraging for edible mushrooms. They will identify and clean the mushrooms. The course also covers the main methods for preserving mushrooms and how to use them. The course begins on 31 August.

Participants should keep in mind to dress appropriately for the weather and bring buckets/baskets for picking the mushrooms. It is also recommended to bring a suitable knife for cleaning and a container for the harvest to take home.

The course is held in collaboration with the Agricultural University of Iceland and takes place at Keldnaholt.
