About Equal Pay Certification
Equal Pay Certification is intended to counteract the gender pay gap in the Icelandic labour market and thus promote gender equality.
Sigríður Lovísa Jónsdóttir, Quality Manager of Payroll and Equal Pay Certification at Brimborg, is here for an informative chat. She wrote her BA thesis on equal pay certification.
“What was surprising was how beneficial the certification is for the company, not just for its employees,” says Lovísa.
The certification doesn't just address the pay aspect but also other issues like bullying and violence. Job descriptions are also often very old and need updating. She says this is therefore not a process that can be pulled out of a hat in a moment, but something that requires both insight and patience.
The Directorate of Equality is responsible for administering the certification, which is based on the equal pay standard ÍST 85.
