About Maintenance and Repairs of Electric Cars

In early November, we received certification from the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) in the UK as an IMI Training Provider. We are now able to offer internationally certified courses related to the handling of and work on electric vehicles. The process has been long and detailed, and the COVID situation didn't make it any easier for us. However, it all came together in the end.

Training is an important safety measure

In recent years, there has been much discussion and writing about the electrification of vehicles and the energy transition. For example, the current government has stated in its climate action plan that it aims to ban the new registration of petrol and diesel cars after 2030. Icelanders have certainly been diligent in switching to electric cars, and new registrations of electric vehicles have increased year on year. All indications are that this trend will continue and even accelerate with a wider selection of new and used electric cars.

The advent of electric cars opens up a new world for everyone involved in vehicle maintenance and repair. It is crucial that professionals in the automotive industry have the required skills and competence to perform their work safely and professionally. This applies not least to those who respond to call-outs and the aftermath of collisions involving electric cars, such as the police, fire brigade, and paramedics, as well as employees of towing services, insurance companies, and auto part suppliers.

In recent years, IÐAN has offered electric vehicle courses in collaboration with the dealerships that import electric cars. Soon, four new and internationally certified electric vehicle courses will be added to our course offerings. The development is such that there is now a need for certified courses for professionals in the automotive industry—courses that also serve to define the knowledge and skills necessary to work on electric vehicles under various conditions.
