Field Trip to Reykjavík Distillery

The Reykjavík Distillery is a family business run by Snorri Jónsson and his wife, Judith. It was the first distillery in Iceland, founded in 2009, and a forerunner to the many smaller alcohol producers that have emerged in recent years.

Snorri gave us an exceptionally warm welcome, and in this informative video, he discusses the methods, product range, and, not least, the philosophy behind the production, which is based on working with local ingredients from the Icelandic wilderness. According to Snorri, the New Nordic Cuisine was a source of inspiration, as it was emerging around the time Reykjavík Distillery became a reality. The company has won multiple awards for both its appearance and its content, including the coveted Red Dot Award for product development and design on four separate occasions. Seeing is believing.
