Workplace learning this summer
IÐAN is participating in a government initiative aimed at increasing opportunities for vocational students without an apprenticeship contract to get workplace training this summer.
The aim of this initiative is to encourage companies to take on additional apprentices and thereby increase the number of students in workplace training. This government measure is temporary and is valid from 15 May to 15 September 2021. Each apprentice comes with a grant equivalent to their wages according to the collective agreement of the relevant trade union, plus the employer's contribution to a pension fund. Companies pay other payroll-related expenses, such as holiday pay, contributions to sickness funds, social security tax, holiday home funds, and Virk. It is anticipated that up to 150 new apprenticeship contracts will be added at IÐAN this summer. This measure is for students who are enrolled in studies for the spring or autumn semester of 2021 and do not have an apprenticeship contract. Apprentices must be 18 years of age (during the year) or older.
The process for companies is as follows:
- The apprentice contacts the company's contact person and applies for a temporary apprenticeship contract, which can be for a maximum of 2.5 months.
- The company's contact person sends an application for an apprenticeship contract to IÐAN. IÐAN prepares an apprenticeship contract between the student and the master craftsman and sends it out for signing. The aim is to use electronic signatures to speed up the process. The deadline to apply for an apprenticeship contract was 15 June.
- At the end of the period, IÐAN confirms that the contract has been fulfilled, based on information received from the companies. The company then applies to the Directorate of Labour (VMST) for payments related to the apprentices. Regarding settlement instructions, they are being prepared by the Directorate of Labour, and we will provide them to participants in the initiative as soon as they are ready.
