Adventures in Iceland
Culinary apprentices Dean Johnston and Roberts Korzinins are part of a twenty-person group of vocational students who are currently in the country.
The students are here through the EU's Education Programme, which gives vocational students and newly qualified tradespeople the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge within their field in other European countries. Experience from such projects can increase participants' job opportunities at home and abroad, and also adds weight to their CV. It's also always a great adventure to travel to other countries and practice your trade.
The group comes from schools all over Europe; Johnston and Korzinins, for example, come from Northern Ireland. IÐAN facilitates the stay and assists, among other things, in finding companies willing to host foreign students. It is a pleasure to report that Icelandic companies are generally ready and willing to participate in Erasmus+ projects. This is good because the active participation of companies enables future professionals to grow both personally and professionally and to get to know the Icelandic business community. Company employees have also mentioned that this is a fun experience that breaks up the routine. It is also always positive and useful to get to know new working methods and cultures.
Icelandic vocational students also have the option to apply for grants for workplace learning in Europe.
