VISKA - Accreditation of Prior Learning for Polish Immigrants Is Going Well

The VISKA (Visible Skills of Adults) project aims for 50 Polish immigrants to undergo a validation of prior learning at IÐAN Education Centre and the Centre for Lifelong Learning in Suðurnes.

In Iceland, the focus is on having 50 Polish immigrants undergo a validation of prior learning (VPL) at IÐAN Education Centre and the Centre for Lifelong Learning in Suðurnes. So far, 25 have undergone VPL in carpentry, 2 in painting, 9 in food technology, 2 against the competency requirements for waiters/waitresses, and 6 against the competency criteria for transversal skills.

The validation has gone well, and it is clear that many Polish immigrants are having a similar number of credits validated as Icelandic participants – the skills are therefore present.

The project will be presented at the VPL Biennale in Berlin at the beginning of May – see information about this interesting conference here. There will also be a presentation on the VPL system for continuing education in Iceland and its funding.

More about the project's status in the other participating countries can be found here.
