Volvo is a leader in the production of larger electric vehicles. "They started in 2017 by producing buses," says Egill, and then began experimenting with larger electric trucks in 2019.
However, it wasn't until last year that such vehicles started to become a viable option. That's when Volvo began mass-producing larger electric trucks, which led to lower costs and increased range.
For larger trucks, electricity is well-suited for all urban driving and trips to neighbouring municipalities. When fully loaded, it's realistic to say they have a range of about 400 km, with short charging stops.
Using electricity results in energy savings of about 75%.
