Electrified Land Rover Attracted Attention at Car Days in Akureyri

The car attracted a great deal of attention from visitors as it combines classic jeep culture with the latest technology in vehicle electrification. The car was electrified in a special course that Iðan held in collaboration with the British company Electric Classic Cars earlier this year.

The project involved converting a 2007 Land Rover Defender into an electric car using a high-voltage system from a Nissan Leaf. The goal was achieved in just three days, and the participants managed to make the car roadworthy before the course ended.

“There is great potential in electrifying older cars, both to extend their lifespan and reduce their environmental impact,” says Sigurður Svavar Indriðason, head of automotive studies at Iðan, who says the project has generated a lot of interest among professionals, jeep owners, and classic car enthusiasts.

Showcasing the car at Bíladagar gave visitors the opportunity to see the results of the project and how a classic jeep can be given a new lease of life with an electric drive. With this project, Iðan aims to promote increased knowledge of new technology and highlight the opportunities that lie in sustainable development within the automotive industry.
